Mount Gilead High School Art Department hosts The Dinner Party

The annual high school art show is set for May 10 at the high school auditeria from 7:00- 8:30 pm.  The evening is planned with a little something for everyone.

• Student artwork from all the art classes will be on display including children's art from Kursk, Russia. 
  
  During a mission trip to Russia last summer, high school art teacher Robin Brucker stayed with a well known artist and elementary art teacher, Valerij Tsimbulov in Kursk, located approximately 300 miles south of Moscow. During her visit, arrangements were made to have an art exchange in the spring.
     
  The elementary art classes in Russia are much like ours here in Mt. Gilead. The students meet for one lesson a week for 35 weeks. Their artwork is influenced by their culture and traditions and you will see this in their work. Most of the work represented are children ages six through nine and a few 11-13 year olds.
     
  Art students from the high school have selected work to send to Valerij to show his students. Contributors are: Sarah Robertson, Stetson Lewis, John Fox, Jade Tilley, Braelyn Snow, Courtney Dobucki, Kurt Hawk, Kelsey Snyder, Sarah Carroll, Samantha Elson, and Trent Bostic. Examples of watercolors, pen and ink, painting, mola, printing, mixed media and drawing have been included. Up to 12 pieces from the elementary level will be going as well.
   
• A special display will be presented in the same fashion as Judy Chicago's sculptural piece, The Dinner Party.
      
  Chicago's work is a monumental, multi-media installation created by the artist herself and hundreds of volunteers between 1974-1979, symbolizing the history of female achievement in Western Civilization. The Art II students, Independent Art students and Mrs. Brucker will present their own version of The Dinner Party, commemorating a variety of well known people who have had an influence in our culture.
   
• A Coffee House in the Community Room will be open to all musicians and poets who wish to perform and the Music Boosters annual Basket Raffle will be available for the purchase of raffle tickets.
