The Mount Gilead High School JV and Varsity cheerleaders attended the UCA hosted cheer camp held at The Ohio State University, August 5th through the 8th. Throughout the camp the squads learned several cheers, dances, and team building skills. At the end of each day the squads had evaluations of the materials they had learned and chose to showcase. Ribbons were awarded to each squad at the end of their evaluations. Squads could earn white “improvement needed”, red “almost ready”, or blue “game ready” ribbons. After final evaluations on the last day of camp, squads who had received blue or “game ready” ribbons at each evaluation were awarded with a trophy and a bid to the Capital One Bowl in Florida on New Years Day. The MGHS Varsity squad, who received blue ribbons at each of their evaluations, were among those who received a bid to the Capital One Bowl. Mount Gilead’s JV squad, who also worked hard throughout the week, received honors as one of the “Most Improved” squads at the camp.

Varsity Cheerleader Melissa Redick earns individual bid to London.

Mount Gilead Ohio Melissa Redick

Along with the Varsity squads bid to the Capital One Bowl, Melissa Redick earned her own individual bid to London through UCA’s All Star Team Try-Outs. At the camp both an “All Star Cheer” and an “Extreme Routine (dance)” are taught and used for the All Star Try-Outs. Girls from each squad are able try out for this team by showcasing their best jump, the all star cheer, and the extreme routine. After the try out ten to twenty girls are chosen to be apart of the UCA All Star Team. For the second year in a row, Melissa made the team earning a UCA All Star medal and a bid to perform in London at the New Years Day Parade. Congratulations also go to Brie Stegman who earned a spot on the team last year, and also to the several Mount Gilead girls who tried out at this years camp.
