Bill most recently was employed by Santech Landfill in Crawford County as a

to his son Matt. He also had an extensive collection of toy farm
equipment. His home had two rooms lined with his “toys”.

William F. “Sookey” Soulier III, age 58, of Galion
and formerly of Mount Gilead, died on Tuesday afternoon, June 17, 2008, at the
Ohio State University Medical Center following a six month battle with cancer.
He was born in Cardington, Ohio, on August 19, 1949, the son of Gertrude Ullom
Soulier Trout of Mesa, AZ, and the late William F. Soulier II.
Sookey graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class
of 1967, where he excelled on the football team. Later, he received his
bachelor’s of arts degree in history from Tarkio College in Nebraska.
Following college and for the next twenty seven years, Bill lived and worked in
Seattle, Washington, after earning a job at the Boeing Company. For Boeing, he
started as a facilities plumber and worked his way up to coordinating their
water treatment for their many expansions and new buildings. He learned the art
of plumbing as an assistant to his father, Bill II. While living in
Seattle, Bill returned to Mount Gilead for his twentieth year class reunion,
where he reconnected with a dear old friend, Teresa Knox Styer, whom he had
known since he was 8 years old. A year later, they married on June 4, 1988.
For the next twenty years, Bill and Teresa have shared a close bond that filled
their lives “with happiness.” In 2004, Bill and Teresa moved to Galion to
be nearer to their family and especially their grandchildren. Upon returning to
the area where he grew up, Bill worked for Cowen Truck Lines in Perrysville. An
independent spirit, he loved the freedom of driving truck and he enjoyed the
many sights he saw along the way. An outdoorsman, Bill loved anything to do
with being on the western mountains in Oregon and Washington. He enjoyed
everything from mountain biking, camping, and taking 5 day treks from Portland
to Seattle, to his favorite pastime of hiking. An accomplishment he was very
proud of was nearly reaching the summit of Mt. Rainer. An avid fan of all
things musical, Bill had a wide variety of musical interests from country to
classical music. Though, he was especially fond of listening to the Beatles and
“the Boss” Bruce Springstein. Having a heart of gold, the best words to
describe Bill would be to describe a man of God; as he was a “good, strong,
fair, and loving man” who people would gravitate towards.
He was a member of the North Robinson United Methodist Church, and the Masonic
Lodge # 206 of Mount Gilead.
Bill will be dearly missed by his wife, Teresa; his mother, Gertrude; step son,

He was born in Fulton, Ohio on October 22, 1929, the son of the late Howard O.
Osborne and Mildred E. (Armstrong) Osborne of Mount Gilead. He grew up on a
farm where they raised turkeys and chickens. Gene graduated from Iberia High
School in 1948.
A U.S. Navy Korean War Veteran, Gene served his country from October 1948 –
October 1952. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Repose as a ship medic.
While on leave towards the end of his service, he married the love of his life,
Beverly Jeanne Wiseman, on March 2, 1952.
He was a member of the Iberia Presbyterian Church where, as a younger man, he

anything. When the orchard needed a particular sprayer, Gene made it by
teaching himself to weld. He was very proud of the orchard and the natural

for its success. In the rare instance Gene was not working you could find
him reading Farm Magazine or getting caught up in a good western novel or movie.

Paul
Elliott Graham, age 77, of Mount Gilead, died unexpectedly on Monday
morning, May 12, 2008, from injuries sustained in a trucking accident.
He was born in Greensburg, Kentucky, on November 17, 1930, the son of the late
Felding Lively and Amanda “Meme” (Whitlow) Graham.
With his older brothers serving in the war, Paul left early school to help
work on the family farm.
Just before leaving for the Korean Conflict himself, Paul married his soul mate,
Mary (Powell) Graham, on December 22, 1951. For nearly fifty seven years, Mary
has been “his world,” and they shared an “undying love” and a “secret hiding
place.” Together they loved to be surrounded by family and have huge barbecues
on his custom eight foot grill. Paul and Mary attended the Gilead Friends
Church, whose Pastor renewed their vows for their golden anniversary in their
yard with all of their close family and friends in 2002.
Shortly after their wedding, Paul was deployed by the U.S. Army to serve in
Korea in 1952. He served for two years as a radio operator, a Veteran of the
Korean Conflict. A “jack of all trades in the oil industry,” Paul followed
the oil boom of Morrow County, moving his family from Kentucky to Mount Gilead
in 1963. He was a self employed oil producer, who knew everything there was to
know about the oil business. Paul was best known for his “loud” red oil truck
he drove throughout the State of Ohio. He was a member of the Morrow
County Conservation Club and the Korean War Veteran’s Association of Marion.
An avid hunter, Paul earned the nickname of “Rambo” for his extensive collection
of knives and guns. An excellent marksman, no animal wanted in the woods when
he was hunting, as he could “split the hairs on a flea from 100 yards away.” He
enjoyed many trips to Colorado to hunt elk. With a love for the outdoors,
Paul enjoyed fishing in any local fishing hole and deep sea fishing, especially
with his grandchildren. Having a special place in their grandfather’s
heart, Paul planted a different species of tree for each new member of his
family that “no one was allowed to touch.” “A simple man with a simple
plan,” Paul learned his life lessons from the “school of hard knocks.” He was
brilliant, but in his own unique way; he could do complicated math problems in
seconds using his own self taught formulas and he could build/fix anything out
of a four inch pipe, coat hanger, and duct tape. With a long story or a
joke for “everything,” Paul always made everyone laugh. And no matter the
circumstance, his family and friends knew if they needed help or a shoulder to
lean on Paul would make everything “okay.”
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary; five children: Paul K. (Vivian)
Graham of Marengo, Doug Graham of Mount Gilead, Donna Marie(Rick) Manning of
Pinch, West Virginia, Libby (David Humphrey) Seitz of Mansfield, and Jannetta
(Doug) Martin of Mount Gilead; eighteen grandchildren and seventeen
grandchildren with three more on the way; a sister, Bell of Campbellsville,
Kentucky; and four beloved Chihuahuas: Babe, Matt, Buddy, and Peter Paul.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his two brothers:
Harold and Ralph “Jake”; and three sisters: Flossie, Teresa Jean, and Lethie.
His family will greet friends on Thursday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral
Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mt. Gilead. Services celebrating his life
will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Gilead Friends Church, SR 42 S.,

“Dave” Kyle David Vipperman , 69, of Cardington died unexpectedly
Wednesday evening at his residence.
He was born on January 8, 1939 in Delaware, Ohio the son of the late Kyle L. and
Stella Mae “Stevens” Vipperman.
Dave recently moved back to the area after being away for 20 years, living in
the states of Kentucky and Tennessee. A jack-of-all trades Dave worked in
various fields, as a truck driver for Gossett Trucking, a plumber for Soulier
Plumbing and Heating, and most recently as a maintenance man for Holiday Inn in
Tennessee. Dave had an extensive assortment of antiques and various
collectibles. His collection included antique tractors, “Hot Wheels”,
“Matchbox”, and “Barbie’s”. If all went to plan his purchase would result in a
quick sale of the item for profit. Dave once sold a “Barbie” doll for $1500!
He always said he should have been born 200 years ago. His love of coon
hunting, country and western movies, and antiques placed him in a generation far
beyond his years.
